Product description

This recall involves the SVALOS 222 tool cleaner and thinner in various formats.

Recalled Products

  • SVALOS 222 tool cleaner and thinner – 500ml
  • SVALOS 222 tool cleaner and thinner – 1L
  • SVALOS 222 tool cleaner and thinner – 5L
  • SVALOS 222 tool cleaner and thinner – 10L

Hazard identified

The recalled products do not comply with the provisions of the Consumer Chemicals and Containers Regulations, 2001, made under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act (CCPSA), with respect to warning labels required for consumer chemical products. Health Canada's inspection process has revealed that the recalled products pose aspiration hazards. Additionally, the 1 L format container was found to fail the leakage test described by the regulations.

Aspiration occurs when a chemical product is ingested and then is introduced into the lungs through coughing and/or vomiting. It can result in severe adverse health effects including: pulmonary injury, chemical pneumonia and death.

Livos Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these products.

Number sold

About 1,500 units of the recalled product were sold in various retail outlets and hardware stores.

Time period sold

The recalled products were sold between May 2008 and October 2016.

Manufactured in Germany.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled products and contact Livos Canada to obtain a compliant label.

Please note that the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits recalled products from being redistributed, sold or even given away in Canada.
