Product description
This recall involves LED Night Lights with model number 71190. The night lights are rectangular and measure about 5.6 centimetres (2-3/16 inches) high, 8.9 centimetres (3-1/2 inches) wide and 3.2 centimetres (1-1/4 inches) deep.
The front housing is either white or nickel coloured plastic and has four horizontal vents with a round light sensor above the top vent. The backs of the night lights are grey plastic with the AmerTacTM logo, 71190 or 71190A, "SY" identification code and "ETL" molded into them. Only models with SY molded on the back are being recalled.
Hazard identified
An electrical short-circuit in the night light can cause it to overheat and smoulder or melt, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers.
AmerTac has received 24 reports from the United States and 1 report from Canada of the night lights smoking, burning, melting and charring. No injuries have been reported.
Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these affected lights.
Number sold
Approximately 2,390 units of the affected lights were sold at hardware stores, home centres and lighting showrooms across Canada.
Time period sold
The affected lights were sold from March 2009 to October 2010.
Place of origin
Manufactured in China.

What you should do
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled night lights, remove them from the wall sockets and contact the firm for instructions on receiving a full refund.
