Product description

This recall involves Kid's Tools toy watering cans by Toysmith. The watering cans are metallic and come in blue, green, or red. The recalled toys have item number 2288 and UPC 085761022881.

Hazard identified

Health Canada's sampling and evaluation program has revealed that the surface paint on the watering cans contain barium in excess of the allowable limit.

Some forms of barium are safely used in medical and commercial applications, while other forms of barium can be toxic, causing adverse health effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and cramps, as well as more severe symptoms. Children's toys coated with paint containing barium in excess of the allowable limit are strictly prohibited in Canada.

Neither Toysmith nor Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or illnesses related to the use of these products.

Approximately 660 of the recalled products were sold across Canada.

The recalled products were sold from March 2002 to June 2009.
