Product description

This recall involves K9 Natural Frozen Chicken Feast 11lb bags, batch number #150517 sold into the Canadian market via K9 Naturals Eastern Distributor, Freedom Pet Supplies. This batch has not tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes, but was produced on the same day as a batch that did test positive for Listeria monocytogenes.

This relates to a United States FDA recall completed in April 2018. The affected batch was not exported to Canada but with an abundance of caution K9 Natural Ltd decided to voluntarily recall batch number #150517 as it was produced on the same day.

Hazard identified

K9 Natural Ltd is voluntarily recalling K9 Natural Frozen Chicken Feast 11lb bags, batch number #150517, that were imported into the Canadian market in July 2017 because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. No other K9 Natural products are affected in Canada.

This recall relates to a single batch of product that was produced on the same day as one that tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes in the United States in March 2018 and was subjected to a US FDA recall in April 2018.

There are 0 units of either batch available for sale in market.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in humans and animals. Symptoms of infection may include nausea, vomiting, aches, fever, and diarrhea, and may lead to more serious issues such as meningitis and abortion. Healthy people and animals can be infected, and some are more susceptible, including young children, pregnant women, frail or elderly people or others with weakened immune symptoms.

Animals that become infected with Listeria monocytogenes could display symptoms similar to humans. Listeria monocytogenes can affect animals eating the product and there is risk to humans from handling the products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to the products.

As of July 16th, 2018 the company has not received any reports of illnesses, injuries or complaints in Canada.
