Issue
This updated recall involves 14 lots of iNaturally Organic Inc’s Emprise CBN+CBD 50 mg Softgels, NuLeaf Naturals 1800 mg Full Spectrum Hemp Multicannabinoid Oil Softgels and NuLeaf Naturals 1800 mg Full Spectrum Hemp Multicannabinoid Oil, Ultra Plus 1200 mg MultiCannabinoid Oil and Ultra Plus 750 mg MultiCannabinoid Softgels cannabis extracts.
Health Canada conducted an inspection, sampling and testing of cannabis products associated with reported adverse reactions. Test results showed that each sample contained a significant quantity of the intoxicating cannabinoid hexahydrocannabinol (HHC), and of THC in products identified as containing <3 mg per unit (for softgels) or g (for oils). Additionally, significantly less cannabichromene (CBC) was present than identified on the licence holder’s certificate of analysis and/or products labels. In response, iNaturally Organic Inc. began a voluntary recall of affected and potentially affected products.
These products were sold through authorized retailers in Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and the Yukon.
These products were also sold to medical clients through Rosebud Productions Inc. (Herbal Dispatch), Open Fields Winnipeg, Open Fields Saskatchewan and Médicibis.
Hazard identified
The products contain HHC and THC in quantities that could be intoxicating. The presence or quantity of HHC are not indicated on the label. Consumers may also believe that some products contain no or little total THC based on the ‘less than’ sign used to denote the amount of total THC. As labeled, consumers of these products cannot make informed decisions regarding their cannabis use.
Consuming these products when alertness is required may pose potentially serious adverse health consequences, such as when performing safety-sensitive activities like driving motor vehicles or operating heavy machinery. When cannabis is consumed by ingestion, it can take up to 4 hours to feel the full effects and up to 12 hours for the effects to end. Accidentally consuming or consuming too much intoxicating cannabinoids, including THC and HHC, at a time can lead to adverse effects, also known as cannabis poisoning. Cannabis poisoning can be very unpleasant and potentially dangerous, sometimes requiring emergency medical attention and, in some cases, hospitalization. Symptoms can include chest pain, rapid heartbeat, nausea/vomiting, psychotic episode, respiratory depression, severe anxiety and/or panic attack.
