Following our communication regarding Copaxone co-packaged in a kit with Triad manufactured recalled alcohol prep pads, Health Canada is informing Canadians that other health products have been identified that are co-packaged with these recalled alcohol prep pads.
Alcohol prep pads closely resemble alcohol swabs and are used for the same purpose: to cleanse or disinfect a particular area of the body.
- ICU Medical has initiated a voluntary recall of Orbit subcutaneous infusion sets due to the co-packaging of their product with Triad alcohol prep pads. This product is used in the treatment of diabetes and ICU Medical has informed Health Canada that they will no longer be co-packaging their infusion pumps with Triad alcohol prep pads.
- Merck Canada Inc., in consultation with Health Canada, issued a notice to health care practitioners and the Canadian public that Pegetron® used in the treatment of adult patients with chronic hepatitis C. has been co-packaged with the recalled Triad pads.
- Merck Canada is advising consumers to not use the alcohol prep pads, labelled ALCO-PREP® Pre-injection cleansing swab, packaged with Pegetron® Redipen® but to use alternative alcohol prep pads, or a sterile gauze pad and isopropyl alcohol (70%).
Canadians may wish to consult with their health care practitioner if they or any member of their family are currently using health products that are co-packaged with alcohol prep pads to determine if these prep pads are manufactured by Triad. Should any new information be identified, Health Canada will continue to update Canadians.
