Product description

The recall involves children's bed canopy models:

  • MINNEN bed canopy set,

Hazard identified

A potential entanglement hazard exists with these products.

There have been 11 incidents worldwide of children becoming entangled in IKEA bed canopies, including one incident in Canada (although the Canadian incident involved a product not sold in Canada but had been imported from the United Kingdom). 

Despite the reported incidents, neither Health Canada nor IKEA have received any reports of injury related to the use of these canopies.

Approximately 7,497 units of the affected models were sold at IKEA stores across Canada and online at

The bed canopy models affected by this recall have been sold at various times in Canada between 1996 and 2008.

Place of origin

Manufactured in Vietnam, Estonia, Lithuania, and the Czech Republic.

What you should do

Consumers may return the recalled product to any IKEA store for a full refund.  For further information, consumers may contact IKEA Canada toll-free at 1-800-661-9807 or visit IKEA's website and click on the recall link.

Consumers may view the release by the US CPSC on the Commission's website.

Please note that the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits recalled products from being redistributed, sold or even given away in Canada.
