Affected products

This alert involves the following product:

  •  Gniby LED Pointer, 3 in 1 rechargeable interactive laser toy for cats and dogs. 

The product is a handheld laser with silver housing, torch style with a lanyard and clip.   The product is 11.5 cm long, 1.6 cm wide and 1.6 cm in height and weighs 23 grams.  The laser pointer was sold on Amazon.ca under ASIN # B0BZTZL512 and model 9318.

Issue

Health Canada has determined, after testing, this product is classified as a Class 3B handheld portable laser, which poses a danger to human health or safety. Use of Class 3B handheld portable lasers present an increased risk to consumers of permanent eye injury.  Injuries result from the laser beam being directed in the eyes, even from short unintentional exposure. 

What you should do

Consumers who have the affected product should immediately stop using it and safely dispose of the product in accordance with municipal electronic waste requirements.

Regularly check the Healthy Canadians Recalls and Safety Alerts database for dangerous products and take action to remove items of concern.

Health Canada would like to remind consumers to report any health or safety incidents related to the use of these products or any other consumer product or cosmetic by filling out the Consumer Product Incident Report Form.

What is being done

The product has been removed from sale online from the website Amazon.ca. Health Canada has contacted the foreign selling company who have been unresponsive to requests to voluntarily recall, therefore Health Canada is advising consumers to immediately stop using the affected Gniby LED Pointer. Health Canada reminds consumers to learn about the risks of buying consumer products online (see Related Links above).

To date, no incidents or injuries related to this product have been reported to Health Canada. 

Amazon.ca reported that 3763 units of the affected product were sold in Canada.
