Product description

The recalled product is a two-wheeled hand truck with 3-piece, metal/chrome plated wheels. "Harper Truck" and the model number can be found on an adhesive sticker on the hand truck frames cross member.

Hazard identified

When the tires are overinflated, they can explode causing the wheel hub to separate or break, ejecting pieces of the hub. This poses a risk of injury to consumers.

Harper Trucks, Inc. has received 19 reports of overinflated tires exploding that resulted in 19 injuries including broken bones, loss of sight in one eye, contusions and lacerations. Three of these reports involve model number 51TK19, the only model sold in Canada.

Health Canada has not received reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of the hand trucks.

Number sold

Approximately 6,696 of the recalled hand trucks were sold in Canada, exclusively by Home Depot Canada, Inc.

Time period sold

The recalled products were sold from September 2008 to March 2009 in Canada and the United States.
