Product description
This recall involves all CroMoto S.U.L. bicycle stems sold as individual aftermarket units as well as on Salsa bicycles. The stems range from a 75- to 105-degree rise, and an extension length between 90 and 120 mm.
Salsa bicycles that are affected by this recall include: Ala Carte, El Mariachi, Casseroll Triple, Casseroll Single, and La Cruz. The stems that were sold as a part of the bicycle were painted to match the bike model colour and have the word "Salsa" painted on the extension.
The aftermarket product is black and has the word "Salsa" painted on the extension.
Hazard identified
The handlebar stem can crack or break, posing a fall hazard to the consumer.
Salsa Bicycles has received three reports of the handlebar stem breaking, with one incident resulting in a broken wrist. Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries regarding the use of these bicycle stems.
Number sold
Approximately 17 units of the recalled products were sold at specialty bicycle retailers in Canada. More products may have been purchased online by Canadian consumers.
Time period sold
The recalled products were sold from November 2007 to December 2008.
Place of origin
Manufactured in Taiwan.
