Product description

This recall involves the following three hair products, imported by Life Time Sales Ltd./Besco Beauty Corporation.

The first recall is for Body & Shine conditioning enhancer sold under the brand name "Soft Sheen Optimum Care". The mousse was sold in a 269 g (419 mL) blue pressurized aerosol container with a white cap and can be identified by the UPC code 075285204061.

The second recalled product is Wave Nouveau Revitalizing Mousse, sold under the brand name "Soft Sheen Carson". The mousse was sold in a 7.1 oz (201 g) pressurized aerosol container and has the UPC code 075285108765.

The third recalled product is dry shampoo sold under the brand "Home Institute". The shampoo is sold in a pressurized aerosol container and has the UPC code 3248140656306.

Hazard identified

Health Canada's auditing process has revealed that these products do not have the mandatory labelling as required under Canadian law.

The products lack the symbol and warnings required for potentially flammable and explosive products. The lack of labelling information, including appropriate warnings, could potentially result in misuse of these products and lead to serious injury.

Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these product.

Number sold

The number of each recalled product sold is as follows:

  • Approximately 12 units of the recalled Soft Sheen conditioning enhancer products were sold at Cosmetiques Multi Ethniques in Quebec.
  • Approximately 24 units of the recalled Wave Nouveau revitalizing mousse products were sold at Cosmetiques Multi Ethniques and Excellence Cosmetiques in Quebec.
  • Approximately 1,500 units of the Home Institute dry shampoo were sold in Canada.

Time period sold

The time period during which each recalled product was sold is as follows:

  • The time period during which the conditioning enhancer was sold is not known.
  • The recalled mousse products were sold from May 2008 to March 2009 and were manufactured in the United States of America.
  • The recalled dry shampoo products were sold from April 2007 to March 2009, and were manufactured in France.
