Gore Ride On Brakes for Road Bike Cable Systems
Product description
This recall involves brake cables for road bikes sold under the brand name "Gore Ride On Brake for Road Cable Systems." The following cables are included in this recall:
- Low Friction Brake Cables for Road Bikes
- Professional Brake Cables for Road Bikes
The products are sold in either a black (Low Friction) or white (Professional) box. Cables sold in gray boxes are not affected.
Hazard identified
The affected brake cables come with two optional installation ends, including a Campagnolo® style termination end and a SRAM® / Shimano® termination end. Gore has learned that one of these two optional brake cable termination ends, the Campagnolo® end, was not manufactured to specifications and may detach, resulting in a loss of braking. Both brake cables are affected only if they were installed using the Campagnolo® termination head.
W.L Gore & Associates, Inc. is aware of one report from a German distributor. No injury has been reported.
Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries to Canadians related to the use of these brake cables.
Number sold
Approximately 205 units of the recalled brake cables were distributed in Canada.
Approximately 9,700 units of the recalled brake cables were sold in the United States.
Time period sold
The recalled brake cables were sold from July 2008 to December 2011 in Canada, and from January 2008 to January 2012 in the United States.
Place of origin
Manufactured in Taiwan.

What you should do
If a consumer has installed the affected brake cables using the Campagnolo® style termination, then he or she should immediately stop using the affected brake cables and any bicycles on which the brake cables have been installed.
Consumers are advised to go to the firm's recall webpage, where they can register for the recall and order free replacement brake cables. Consumers may also contact the firm's customer service at 1-888-914-4673, to speak directly to a customer service representative and order free replacement cables.
