Product description

This recall involves General Finishes Outdoor Oil sold in 946 mL (1 quart) containers. The product can be used by itself, over any stain, and on pressure-treated wood.

Hazard identified

The recalled products do not have the proper consumer chemical hazard packaging and labelling required by the consumer Chemicals and Containers Regulations, 2001 under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act.

General Finishes Outdoor Oil contains hydrocarbons in a level that can pose a danger to human health, especially children, if aspiration occurs. Aspiration occurs when the product is coughed up or vomited after being ingested. This coughing/vomiting causes small particles of the product to travel into the lungs and may result in severe health effects including pulmonary injury, chemical pneumonia or death.

As of September 17, 2018, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada.

Approximately 16 units of the affected products were sold in Canada.

The affected product was sold between September 2017 and July 2018.

What you should do

Consumers should immediately discontinue use of the product and dispose of the product according to local municipal waste guidelines.
