The LP models and only natural gas models that have been converted for use with LP gas are included in the recall. Mabe will notify known owners of natural gas units and provide a free repair for any consumers who converted their Rangetop with Grill to LP gas.

Hazard identified

When one of the top burner gas control knobs is inadvertently left in a position between OFF and LITE, the burner can fail to light. Because LP gas is heavier than air, this can cause an accumulation of gas in the base of the rangetops with Grills operating on LP gas. This situation creates the potential for a delayed ignition or explosion.

Mabe Leiser S.A. has received 6 reports of incidents in the United States, and 0 reports of incidents in Canada.

Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents and injuries to Canadians related to the use of the rangetops.

Number sold

In Canada, no (0) LP gas units were sold and approximately 120 natural gas units were sold across Canada. Only natural gas models that have been converted for use with LP gas are included in the recall. Natural Gas units are sold with LP conversion kits for field conversion at the option of the consumer.

In the United States, approximately 470 liquid LP gas units of the affected products were sold nationwide.

Time period sold

The recalled products were sold from October 2008 to August 2011 in Canada, and from May 2008 to June 2011 in the United States.
