GE Appliances recalls GE Profile Harmony™ Top-Loading Clothes Washers

Joint recall with Health Canada, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (US CPSC), GE Appliances and MC Commercial Inc. ("Mabe").
GE Profile Harmony™ high-efficiency top-load clothes washers
This recall involves the GE Profile™ Harmony Top-Load Washers manufactured between June 2003 and October 2010. The washers were sold in gold, dark grey, and white. Washers with model numbers starting with WPGT9350, WPGT9360, and WPGT9150 are affected by this recall. Only model WPGT9150 was sold in Canada. The model number is located on the rear cover of the washer's backsplash, above the water valve connections.
The main circuit board can malfunction, which can lead to overheating, posing a smoke and fire hazard to consumers.
Neither Health Canada nor MC Commercial Inc. (Mabe) has received any reports of consumer incidents or injuries related to the use of these washers in Canada.
In the United States, GE Appliances has received 71 reports of internal washer components burning or catching fire, including 3 reports of fire resulting in property damage. No injuries have been reported.
Approximately 455 units were sold in Canada and approximately 220,000 units were sold in the United States.
Time period sold
The affected washers were sold in Canada from 2008 to 2011.

What you should do
Consumers should immediately unplug and stop using the recalled washers and contact MC Commercial Inc. for a free in-home repair.
