Product description
This recall involves the Fun Ice® Chewy Teether by Munchkin. The teether is filled with gel and is available in either the shape of a hand, a foot, or an animal. The product is intended for infants between 0 and 24 months.
The recalled teethers can be identified by UPC 735282740015 and item number 74001. The UPC and item number can be found on the back of the product packaging.
Hazard identified
Health Canada's sampling and evaluation program has revealed that the gel filling of the teether may be contaminated with the bacteria Bacillus cereus. This bacteria can cause severe nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea if the teether is punctured and the filling from the teether is ingested. Individuals suffering from compromised immune systems are more vulnerable to infection by Bacillus cereus.
Health Canada testing was performed on teethers with lot number 0199; however, Munchkin Inc. is voluntarily recalling all lots of this teether sold in Canada.
Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of this product.

Approximately 82,000 of the recalled products were distributed across Canada. The number of products sold is not known.
Time period sold
The recalled products were sold from 2001 to June 2009.
