Full Speed Ahead Gossamer BB30 Crank Sets for Bicycles

Product description

This recall involves the Gossamer BB30 crank set, which is the part of the bicycle that attaches to the chain and pedals (for pedaling). The recalled crank set is either painted black with "Gossamer" printed in white on the arm, or painted white with "Gossamer" printed in black on the arm. There are two drive gears on the crank arm.

The recalled crank sets were assembled as original equipment on the following models of Cannondale bicycles:

  • 2010 CAAD9 5 and CAAD9 5 Feminine
  • 2010 Six Carbon 5
  • 2010 Slice 4, Slice 4 Nytro, Slice 5
  • 2010 Synapse Carbon 4, Carbon 4 Feminine, Carbon 5
  • 2011 CAAD10 5 105, CAAD10 5 105 Feminine
  • 2011 Slice 5, Slice 5 Womens
  • 2011 SuperSix 5 105, SuperSix 5 105 Womens
  • 2011 Synapse Carbon 4 Rival, Carbon 4 Rival Womens, Carbon 5
  • 2011 CAAD8 5 105
  • 2011 CAADX 105 Cyclocross

The recalled crank sets can also be identified by the product numbers, which are found on the inside of the non-drive crank arm.

  • Gossamer Pro BB30 CK-OS6021;
  • Gossamer Pro Compact BB30 CK-OSC6021;
  • Gossamer BB30 CK-OS6020;or
  • Gossamer Compact BB30 CK-OSC6020.

Hazard identified

If the fixing bolt is overly tightened on the non-drive crank arm during installation, part of the bolt could crack or break. The non-drive crank arm could also crack. Either of these situations could cause the non-drive crank arm to fall off the bicycle, posing a fall or crash hazard to riders.

Full Speed Ahead has received 11 reports of incidents in the United States, including 2 reports of injuries.

Neither Health Canada nor Full Speed Ahead has received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of this product in Canada.

Number sold

Approximately 1,280 of the recalled crank sets were sold at independent bicycle retail stores across Canada.

Time period sold

The recalled products have been sold since February 2010.

Place of origin

Manufactured in Taiwan.

What you should do

Consumers should immediately stop using bicycles that have the recalled crank sets and return the bicycle to the dealer. The dealer will install a new non-drive crank arm free of charge.
