Affected products

Fiskars 16 foot Extendable Pole Saw/Pruners

Product description

This recall involves Fiskars 16-foot extendable pole saw/pruner lawn and garden tools with model numbers 9463, 9440 and 9441. The model number is printed on the UPC number on the pole. Fiskars is printed on the orange and black pole.

These pole saw/pruners extend from 7 feet to 16 feet (approximately 2.1 metres to 4.9 metres). They are used to cut high tree branches with either their pruner for smaller branches or their 15-inch (approximately 38.1 centimetres) hooked wood saw blade for larger branches. The blade is secured to an oval-shaped fiberglass and aluminum telescoping pole set that is designed to lock into place when extended.

Hazard identified

When extended or not properly secured, the telescoping poles may become separated when the locking mechanism is not fully engaged. This can cause the poles to come apart and fall down, and the saw blade and pruner head to drop, posing a laceration hazard or other serious injury.

As of December 3, 2020, the company has received no reports of incidents or injury in Canada. In the United States, the company has received 2 reports of the poles separating during use, resulting in laceration injuries requiring stitches.
