Product description

This recall involves the following eyeglasses cases for children:

  • The green case has a green top and blue bottom. There are pictures of various sports equipment (soccer balls, basketballs, baseballs, pool table balls, footballs) drawn in dark blue on the lid.
  • The yellow case has yellow top and dark pink bottom. The top has a dark pink butterfly designs.
  • The orange case has an orange top and dark blue bottom. There are various designs or drawings (letters, stars, apples) drawn in dark blue on the lid.

The cases can be identified by the model number E5027-RPU.

Hazard identified

Health Canada's sampling and evaluation program has revealed that the paint on the green eyeglasses cases contain lead in excess of the allowable limit. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects.

Ronor International Inc. is voluntarily recalling the yellow and orange cases.

Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or illnesses related to the use of these eyeglasses cases.

Number sold

Approximately 1,540 of the recalled products were sold at Costco, Sears stores in Quebec, and other optical stores across Canada.

Time period sold

The recalled products were sold from January 2010 to March 2010.

What you should do

Consumers should immediately take the recalled products away from children and return them to the place of purchase for a free replacement case. Alternatively, consumers may dispose of the recalled cases in their regular household garbage.
