Affected products
This recall involves the Geilipo brand balloon blowing toys sold on the SHEIN Canada website. These toys consist of solvent mixtures in tubes and short plastic straws. Children can form balloons or bubbles by slowly squeezing out a ball of the mixture from the tube and sticking it on the end of the straw. Children can then blow through the straw to create bubbles. The Geilipo balloon blowing toys come with 3 tubes of assorted colours and 3 yellow straws.

Issue
Children's balloon blowing kits are prohibited in Canada.
The safety concern is that blowing the balloons exposes children to inhaling the vapours of any solvents present. If children blow this type of solvent containing balloon for extended periods, they may experience early symptoms of central nervous system depression or dysfunction, including euphoria, hallucinations, dizziness, and difficulties with coordination of voluntary movements. Prolonged exposure can lead to more serious symptoms including muscular twitching, unconsciousness, and coma.
As of August 8, 2024, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada.
