Product description

This recall involves refillable utility lighters with brown, red or blue handles, imported by Loblaws Inc. The recalled lighters can be identified by the date of manufacture written as "12/11", which is printed on the label of the product. The manufacturing date and UPC number 0 58703 04168 4 are also printed on the back of the packaging. The lighters may also have the brand name "G@stoni" imprinted at the base of the handle.

This recall does not include any other models of Everyday Essentials^TM Refillable BBQ Lighter .

Hazard identified

Testing by Health Canada of these utility lighters has revealed that they may pose a burn risk to users because they do not meet the performance testing requirement outlined in the Lighter Regulations.

Specifically, the lighters continue to burn after the trigger mechanism has been released and they exceed the allowable flame heights during ignition.

Neither Loblaws Inc. nor Health Canada has received reports of incidents or injuries as related to the use of these lighters.

Approximately 3,350 of the recalled utility lighters were sold in Canada.
