Affected products
This recall involves Essencia Basil and Essencia Bay Laurel essential oils. Both products are sold in blue 15 ml bottles with a white cap, packaged in a white and blue box, with an opening on the front through which the bottle is visible. Essencia Basil is a pale yellow to yellow or greenish yellow oily liquid with a characteristic smell. UPC 7 78159 41515 9 and batch 252719 are marked on the underside of the box.
Essencia Bay Laurel is a pale yellow to colourless oily liquid with a characteristic smell. UPC 7 78159 40052 0 and batch 5005236253 are marked on the underside of the box.
Issue
Health Canada's sampling and evaluation program has determined that the recalled product contains methyl eugenol above the maximum concentration in the Cosmetic Ingredient Hotlist.
Methyl eugenol is prohibited as a pure ingredient on the Hotlist due to its potential for carcinogenicity but is permitted as a naturally occurring component in botanical extracts with specific limits depending on the product type.
As of February 24, 2026, the company has received no reports of incidents in Canada, and no reports of injuries.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled product and return it to Homeocan for a refund.
