Product description
This recall involves Digital Concepts Compact Travel Battery Charger model numbers CH-1600S& CH-1600S-RS with batch code: MID#0801110. This batch code can be found on the white product label located on the underside of the battery charger. Also on the underside are three screws and a retractable power plug. The battery charger fits two AA or AAA batteries, and is a silver and grey colour.
Hazard identified
The housing of the product easily comes apart and exposes the energized internal components, which can lead to electrocution/electrical shock.
The affected product has been recalled in the United States and is certified to Canadian Standards by Underwriters Laboratories (UL), which means it can potentially be available in Canada as well.
Neither Sakar nor Health Canada is aware of any reports of incidents or injuries to Canadians related to the use of these battery chargers.
Number sold
There were no affected units distributed in Canada by the company. However as units are approved for sale in Canada, there may be some present in the Canadian market through other channels.
Time period sold
The affected units were sold in the United States only from January 2011 to February 2012.
