Product description
This recall involves Deluxe 12V Heated Seat Cushions (Canadian Tire product number 32-1427-4) manufactured by Elegant. The recalled product can be identified by the tag located at the back of the cushion, which reads "Elegant" and by the UPC code 0 27323 60248 3.
Only the units previously manufactured by Elegant are being recalled. The units that are currently manufactured by SonJoy are not included in this recall.
Hazard identified
It has been determined that due to a manufacturing defect, the insulation that surrounds the heating elements could shift and, in some cases, cause the fabric to heat and smoulder.
Canadian Tire has received reports of incidents where the cushion started smoking and/or caused damage to the vehicle's seat. There have been no reports of injuries.
Health Canada has not received any reports of injuries or incidents related to the use of this product.
Number sold
Approximately 296,800 units of the recalled products were sold at Canadian Tire stores.
Time period sold
The recalled products were sold from January 2007 to February 2008.
Place of origin
Manufactured in China.

Consumers should immediately stop using the product and return it to their nearest Canadian Tire store for a refund.
