Decorative Glazed Ceramic Plates sold by Dollarama
Product description
This recall involves certain decorative glazed ceramic plates sold by Dollarama. Recalled plates can be identified by item numbers 2301235, 2301284, 2301296, 2301297, 2301422, 2301576, and 2501572.
Examples of plate designs that are part of this recall include the rooster, brown teddy bear with flowers, sheep farm, lighthouse, two loons in a lake, white sail boat, two birds with red roses or pink flowers, and a black & white farm scene.
Hazard identified
Health Canada's sampling and evaluation program has revealed that the recalled plates with the rooster design and the teddy bear design released lead in excess of the allowable limits. Dollarama is voluntarily extending the recall to include all other designs with the item numbers listed above.
The warning label on the bottom of the plate must be permanent and describe the hazard. If these plates are used as dinner plates, and not as decorative plates, then consumers would be exposed to lead. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects.
For more information on appropriate warning labels, visit Health Canada's: Glazed Ceramics and Glassware - Dealer Information.
Neither Dollarama nor Health Canada have received reports of illness or injury to Canadians as related to the use of these plates.
For more information on the risks and symptoms of lead exposure, visit Healthy Canadians' Web page Reduce your exposure to lead.
