Issue
Health Canada's testing of an unauthorized natural health product, MaxHIMize, found it to contain bacteria (Enterococcus durans and Bacillus spp) and undeclared caffeine that could present a risk to health. MaxHIMize is being promoted as a dietary supplement and for erectile dysfunction.
The Enterococcus durans bacteria in this product can cause problems for consumers whose immune systems are compromised (known as immunocompromised) or who have serious underlying diseases. These people may develop severe infections as a result of bacteria in their blood.
The testing followed a complaint made to Health Canada about an advertisement suggesting the product could be obtained at the following web address: www.dbnpharma.com. It is important to note that there may be other websites and advertisements promoting MaxHIMize.
Canadians who have used MaxHIMize and are concerned about their health should consult with a healthcare practitioner.
Health Canada would like to remind Canadians that buying health products online may put your health at serious risk. These products may not have been reviewed by Health Canada for safety, quality, or effectiveness. Products purchased online may contain hidden ingredients not listed on the label, dangerous additives and/or contaminated ingredients. In addition, they may lack the active ingredients Canadians would expect them to contain to help them maintain and improve their health. For all of these reasons, they could cause serious side effects.
What you should do
Use only health products that have been evaluated by Health Canada for safety, effectiveness, and quality. Health products that have been authorized for sale by Health Canada will have an eight-digit Drug Identification Number (DIN), a Homeopathic Medicine Number (DIN-HM) or a Natural Product Number (NPN) on the label.
