Product description
This recall is for combination lock models of Lockdown® Compact and Large handgun security vaults. The vaults are black, steel cases used to store handguns or other valuables at home, in the car or when traveling.
The Compact vault’s interior is 70 centimetres (5.25 inches) wide, 21 centimetres (8.25 inches) long and 3.8 centimetres (1.5 inches) deep and can store most compact automatics and revolvers. The Large vault’s interior is 15.5 centimetres (6.125 inches) wide, 24.8 centimetres (9.75 inches) long and 3.8 centimetres (1.5 inches) deep and can store most full-sized automatics and revolvers with barrels up to 10 centimetres (4 inches) long. The vaults are lined with foam padding in the top and bottom and are secured by a three-digit combination lock. A label with the words "Lockdown" and "www.lockdownvaults.com" is located to the left of the combination lock.
The serial number is located on a paper label on the inside surface of the vault bottom under the foam. Recalled Compact and Large vaults have serial numbers from ST120002600 to ST120006800.
Hazard identified
The lock can fail and allow unintended access to the contents of the vault.
Neither Health Canada nor Battenfeld Technologies Inc. has received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of the handgun vaults.
Number sold
This recall involves approximately 100 units in Canada and approximately 3,900 units in the United States. The recalled security vaults were sold at small sporting goods and specialty stores nationwide and online retailers.
Time period sold
The recalled handgun vaults were sold from May 2012 to February 2013 in Canada and from May 2012 to March 2013 in the United States.
