Product description

This recall involves the Combination Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector for Home.  The detector is white, round, with a sound warning and digital display.  The detector is battery operated; it is not capable of hardwired connection.  The battery compartment is at the back of the unit. The detector has no model number, date of manufacturer and no certification marks, such as CSA, cUL or cETL. The recalled product was sold through an independent third party seller on Walmart.ca under the SKU 6HMGL4RAX630.

Hazard identified

The alarm is not certified to Canadian standards and has not been evaluated for safety.   The alarm may not operate in the presence of smoke or elevated carbon monoxide levels, posing a fire and carbon monoxide poisoning hazard.

As of February 6, 2020, the company has received one report of a detector failing to operate in Canada, with no reports of injuries.

Approximately 6 units of the affected product were sold in Canada.

Time period sold

The affected products were sold from July 2019 to October 2019.

What you should do

Consumers should immediately replace the smoke and carbon monoxide detector with a functioning detector.  Consumers should discard the detector according to their municipal waste requirements for electronic products.  When purchasing and installing smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, consumers are advised to look for a recognized certification mark on the product, such as CSA, cUL or cETL.
