Product description

This recall involves Black & Decker® brand 12-cup coffeemakers designed to mount under a cabinet. The coffeemakers are available in white or black models and have the words "Black & Decker® Spacemaker™" printed in the top right-hand corner. The 12-cup coffee pots are glass with a moulded handle the same colour as the machine and a silver metallic bracket running around the glass near the bottom.

The recall applies to coffee pots furnished with model numbers SDC740, SDC740B, SDC740BR, SDC740R, SDC740C, SDC740DIS, SDC750, SDC750C and SDC750DIS. The model number is printed on the underside of the coffeemaker unit, directly below the water reservoir.

Hazard identified

The coffee pot handle can break, causing cuts and burns to consumers.

Applica Canada Corporation is aware of 1,276 reports in the United States and Canada of handles breaking, including 68 reports of burns and/or cuts.

Number sold

Approximately 16,429 units of the affected coffeemakers were sold at various retailers across Canada.

Time period sold

The affected coffeemakers were sold from July 2008 to May 2012.

Place of origin

Manufactured in China.

Consumers should immediately stop using the affected coffeemakers and contact Applica to exchange their coffee pot for a free replacement.
