Product description
This recall involves clamp meters and multimeters by Extech Instruments. "Extech" and the model number can be found on the front of the product, and the serial number can be found on the back of the product. Serial numbers that begin with "A" are not included in the recall.
The following models are included in this recall:
- Clamp meter models: EX612, EX613, EX622, EX623
- Multimeter models: EX540, EX542 and EX570
Hazard identified
When the battery runs low, the meters can fail to give an accurate voltage reading, resulting in the operator falsely believing the electrical power is off or low. This poses a shock hazard.
In the United States, Extech received one report of a meter displaying an incorrect voltage reading. No injuries have been reported.
Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these products.
Number sold
Approximately 1,077 units of the recalled products were sold at industrial, electrical, HVAC, disaster restoration, and electronic distributors across Canada.

Time period sold
The recalled products were sold between February 2008 and November 2010.
Place of origin
Manufactured in China.

What you should do
Consumers should immediately stop using the affected instruments and return them to Extech Instruments' office at FLIR Systems Canada for a free replacement.
