Caramia Diane drop-side crib.

Product description

The Caramia Diane drop-side cribs have dates of manufacture between September 2002 and June 2004, which can be found on a label attached to the inside of the headboard or footboard.

Hazard identified

The wooden slats on the crib's drop-side can detach, creating a gap that can pose entrapment and fall hazards to infants and toddlers.

Caramia Furniture has received 18 reports of slats detaching from the rails of the crib in the United States and has received no reports of such incidents in Canada. Caramia has reason to believe that this problem is restricted to batches of Diane cribs sold in the United States and that the products sold in Canada were not affected by this problem.

Health Canada has not received any complaints related to this issue for these cribs.

For more information on crib requirements in Canada, as well as the safe use of cribs, see Cribs, cradles and bassinets. For more information on safe sleeping practices for infants, see Safe sleep.

What you should do

Consumers should immediately inspect the drop side of the crib for loose or detached slats. If there is reason for concern, consumers should immediately stop using the recalled cribs and find an alternative, safe sleeping environment for their baby. Consumers should not return the crib.

Any consumer with a crib which has loose slats should contact Caramia Furniture to receive a free replacement drop-side. This free replacement will be available starting March 2010.

For more information, consumers may contact Caramia Furniture at 1-877-728-0342 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday to Friday, or visit the Caramia Furniture website.
