Product description

This recall involves Steelcase Cachet swivel office chairs that have a slotted seat and back design. The recalled chairs can be identified by model number 487 and the date of manufacture, which is printed on a label on the underside of the chair's base. Recalled chairs were manufactured between May 2002 and October 15, 2009.

Hazard identified

The front seat support part on the chairs can break, posing a fall hazard to consumers.

Steelcase Inc. has received one report in the United States of the chair support failing, resulting in a back injury.

Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these chairs.

Number sold

Approximately 3980 of the recalled chairs were sold at various retailers across Canada.

In the United States, approximately 165 000 of the recalled chairs were distributed.

Time period sold

The recalled products were sold from May 2002 to November 2009 in Canada and in the United States.

Place of origin

Manufactured in the United States.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled chair and contact Steelcase to receive further instructions on having their chair repaired or replaced. Consumers can visit the Steelcase recall website for instructions on how to inspect their chair for cracks.
