Joint Recall with Brine, Health Canada, and the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (US CPSC)

Affected products

Brine VIP Lacrosse Gloves

Product description

This recall involves the Brine VIP lacrosse gloves which come in three sizes: 10, 12, and 13 inches. The recalled gloves are black and white in colour, with a pull-cord located at the wrist to tighten the gloves to the wearer's hands. The brand name "Brine" and a silver triad symbol appear on the back of the glove, on the wrist cuff. A blue and white VIP logo is printed on the outside of the wrist cuff on both gloves.

Model numbers and place of manufacture of the recalled gloves are found on barcode tags sewn to the interior of both gloves. The model number is at the top of the barcode tag. All the recalled gloves were assembled in Vietnam.

The new VIP replacement gloves are not affected by this recall. This new design has the brand name Brine outlined in blue on the back of the glove on the wrist cuff, and the silver coloured triad has been removed.

Hazard identified

Testing has revealed that the silver coloured triad logo found on the top of the wrist protector cuff near the white Brine logo contains lead paint levels in excess of the allowable limit. While the silver ink is located on the outside of the glove, and exposure to lead is minimal, lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects.

Neither Health Canada nor Brine has received reports of illness or injury to Canadians related to the use of these gloves.

For more information on the risks and symptoms of lead exposure, visit Health Canada's It's Your Health: Lead and Human Health.

Time period sold
