Product description
This recall involves a metallic rectangular ring with an adjustable band approximately 1.6 centimetre diameter. The ring has a green surface coating material background with a red flower and red dot design. It is approximately 1.9 centimetres in length and 1.4 centimetres in diameter.
Hazard identified
Health Canada's sampling and evaluation program has revealed that the recalled jewellery contains lead in excess of allowable limits.
Under the Childrens Jewellery Regulations of the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act, it is illegal to import, advertise or sell jewellery items that appeal primarily to children under 15 years of age and contain more than 600 mg/kg total lead. Lead and cadmium are highly toxic, especially to children. A range of serious health effects have been associated with exposure to lead and cadmium, including anemia, vomiting, diarrhea, serious brain injury, convulsions, coma, as well as effects related to the liver, kidneys, heart and immune system. In extreme cases, there have been deaths.
