Product description
This recall involves Zippo refillable butane multi-purpose lighters (MPL®) with model number UL2003. The recalled lighters are silver or black, and measure 20.5 cm (8 inches) in length. Some of the lighters have an NHL logo on them.
All lighters have the word "Zippo" imprinted near the top of the lighter and were available in clamshell or gift box packaging.
This recall does not include the Mini MPL, which is shorter in length than the recalled lighters.
Hazard identified
Testing by Health Canada of the Satin Silver MPL® has revealed that some of the lighters have unsafe burning characteristics. For example, in some instances, the flame is too high, the lighter exhibits an abnormal sudden increase in flame height, the lighter continues to burn even after the trigger mechanism has been released.
In addition, the lighter can leak fuel.
Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these lighters.
