Product description

The recalled lapel pins have images depicting 12 video game characters.

The lapel pins vary in size, ranging from 1- to 2- inches in height.

The characters Diddy Kong, Donkey Kong, Bowser, Kirby, Mario, Mario Kart, Pikachu, Princess Peach, Samus, Starfox, Waluigi and Wario were distributed individually.

Mario, Princess Peach and Samus may have also been distributed as a set.

Hazard identified

The metal lapel pin contains high levels of lead. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects.

Health Canada has not received reports of illness or injury to Canadians related to the use of these pins.

Number sold

The lapel pins were never sold in Canada, but were rather given away as promotional items to business associates who are employed by retailers where Nintendo products are sold to further distribute to clients.

Time period sold

Nintendo began distributing these pins (which were never actually sold at retail) in April 2004, and stopped distributing them in November 2007.

What you should do

Consumers should immediately stop wearing the lapel pin.

Consumers who may have received one or more of the recalled pins may have them replaced free of charge with a replacement lapel pin with a different character.

Consumers may call Nintendo toll-free to arrange for replacements.

Nintendo will mail consumers a postage-paid envelope that can be used to send the lapel pin(s) to Nintendo. After Nintendo receives the package, you will receive a confirmation email from Nintendo with information on your replacement pin.
