Joint recall with MTD Products Inc., Health Canada and the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (US CPSC)

Affected products

Log Splitters

Product description

This recall involves log splitters sold under the brands "Yard Machines" and "Troy-Bilt".

The recalled log splitters sold in Canada can be identified by the following model numbers. The model number can be found on the model label, which is located on the log splitter's top rear corner of the frame on the 8 ton unit and on the support mount below the engine for the 21 ton and 27 ton units.

  • Yard-Machines 8 ton unit has model number 24AA5DMK500
  • Yard-Machines 21 ton unit has model number 24BH510B500
  • Troy-Bilt 27 ton unit has model number 24BF572B766.

Hazard identified

The control handle on the control valve of the log splitter may not automatically return to the neutral position and stop the splitting wedge when the operator's hand is released from the forward position. The splitting wedge could continue to creep or move forward, posing a laceration risk to the hands or fingers of the operator.

Neither Health Canada, MTD Products Inc. nor the US CPSC has received reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these log splitters.
