Hazard identified

The recalled mugs may contain low levels of cadmium, a heavy metal which is poisonous if ingested. Health Canada's sampling and testing program revealed that the glaze used on one of these recalled items released cadmium in excess of the allowable limits.

Health Canada has not received reports of illness or injury to Canadians related to the use of these mugs.

Cadmium is highly toxic, builds up in the body, and can cause stomach pains, vomiting and diarrhea. Over time exposure to cadmium can result in kidney damage.

Number sold

Approximately 24,648 units of the mugs were sold at Everything for a Dollar Stores nationwide.

Time period sold

These items were sold at Everything for a Dollar Stores since October, 2007.
