Product description
Galactogil is promoted as a natural product to stimulate lactation in nursing mothers. Lot numbers and expiry dates: 1040 (11/2007); 1438 to 1463 (04/2012 to 07/2012); and 1466 to 1472 (08/2012).
Reason for warning
The French Health Products Safety Agency advised the public not to purchase or consume certain lots of Galactogil due to microbial (bacterial) contamination.
Possible side effects
The bacteria found in Galactogil may cause a variety of adverse effects, such as pneumonia and blood poisoning.
The product is promoted for pregnant/nursing mothers, a high-risk group that is more susceptible to bacterial infections with the use of contaminated products. Vulnerable individuals who use microbially contaminated products may be at risk for miscarriage, stillbirth or severe illness in the newborn child.

Canadians who have this product are advised not to use it, and should consult with a health care professional if they have concerns about their health related to the use of this product.
Health Canada advises Canadians to contact the Health Products and Food Branch Inspectorate at 1-800-267-9675 if they find the product listed above in the Canadian marketplace.
