Archived – Gagou Tagou Pacifier Clip

Product description

The recalled pacifier clip has a small stuffed toy, in various animal styles, attached to a metal clip. A short ribbon with "Gagou Tagou" printed along its length is attached to the stuffed toy. There are Velcro brand hook-and-loop pieces on the ribbon, which are intended to fasten a pacifier's ring to the holder. These pieces are stitched to the ribbon only on their two short sides.

This recall does not include pacifier clips where the Velcro brand hook-and-loop pieces are stitched completely around, or where they are stitched completely around and through their centre in an "X" pattern (see diagram below).

Hazard identified

The Velcro brand hook-and-loop pieces can separate from the ribbon under normal use conditions. The small stiff pieces present a choking hazard to young children.

Health Canada is aware of three cases of the pieces separating from the ribbons. In two of these cases, the parents removed the pieces from the infant's mouths. No injuries were sustained by the infants involved.

Number sold

Approximately 229,867 of the recalled pacifier clips were sold in Canada.

Time period sold

The pacifier clips were sold from October 2005 to October 2008 at various retail locations across Canada.
