Joint recall with Cressi-sub USA, Health Canada and the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (US CPSC)

Affected products

Cressi Ellipse Black MC5 Regulator (for scuba diving)

Product description

This recall involves Ellipse Black MC5 regulators by Cressi. The regulator controls the flow of air from an oxygen tank while scuba diving, allowing divers to breathe underwater. The words "Cressi Black" and "Cressi MC5" are printed on the regulator.

Hazard identified

Partial obstruction of the High Pressure (HP) port can produce an inaccurate reading on the pressure gauge, as the needle in the pressure gauge may falsely indicate a higher pressure. This inaccurate reading on the gauge will leave the diver with the impression that there is more air in the tank than there actually is, thus posing a drowning hazard to divers.

Cressi-sub USA has received 3 reports of inaccurate pressure gauge readings while the scuba regulators were in use, with no reported injuries. Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these regulators.

Approximately 12 of the recalled regulators were sold at two dive stores in Canada: Innerspace in Pickering, Ontario and Soulo in Valleyfield, Quebec.
