Product description
This recall affects only the countertop water dispenser models GWD2630W, PWD2635W, VWD2636W, VWD2636BLK and VWD2636RED manufactured from June 2006 through November 2007 with the first four digits of the serial numbers starting with 0606 through 0711.
The affected models bear a "c CSA US" mark with file number 218326.
The date of manufacture and serial number is located on the side of the countertop dispenser as shown in the attached photograph. NOTE: any of the foregoing model numbers followed by "-1" OR "-2" (i.e., GWD2630W-1 / PWD2635W-2) or inclusive of a "Solid" type base are not affected under this recall.
Hazard identified
The affected models of countertop water dispensers were produced with a different, uncertified base with openings contrary to the originals listed in the CSA Certification Report. The new constructions have not been certified to the applicable standard by CSA International and would permit dropping of molten metal, for example, on the surface underneath the equipment and may pose a potential for shock and possible smoke/fire hazard.
Two incidents of a smoke/fire-related nature with property damage have been reported to the company, Greenway Home Products. There were no associated personal injuries.
Health Canada has not received reports of incidents or injuries to Canadians related to the use of these water dispensers.
Number sold
Approximately 45,373 units were distributed/sold in Canada.
Time period sold
The water dispensers were distributed from August 2006 to March 2008.
