Product description
BuXie PaiDu XiaoDou Su is marketed as an acne treatment. It is sold in capsule form.
Reason for warning
The Hong Kong Department of Health advised the public not to use the health product BuXie PaiDu XiaoDou Su because it was found to contain the prescription drug rifampicin (also known in North America as rifampin).
Prescription drugs should be taken only under the supervision of a health care professional.
Possible side effects
Rifampicin is an antibiotic that is used in the treatment of tuberculosis and other bacterial infections. Side effects that have been associated with rifampicin include headache, dizziness, pruritus (severe skin itchiness), nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, decreased blood platelets, anemia, hepatitis, and kidney failure. There have been fatalities associated with jaundice in patients with pre-existing liver disease who took rifampicin.
