Affected products
Bright Green Whistle-Flashers
Product description
The whistle-flasher is cylindrical, bright green in colour (with black writing) and approx. 3 cm in length. It is attached by a metal clip to a bright green/yellow material string so it may be worn around children's necks.
The whistle-light can be hung around a child's neck or easily attached to a jacket or backpack so children can "light up the night" on Halloween or any time they step outside after dark.
Hazard identified
The whistle-flashers contain small batteries. When the whistle-flashers are unscrewed, the batteries in the product can come out. If swallowed, the batteries could become lodged in the throat. Medical professionals advise that if a battery is swallowed or becomes lodged in a child's nose or ear, parents should take them to the hospital immediately.
Number sold
Manitoba Public Insurance provided the whistle-flashers to schools across the province to help schoolchildren be visible to motorists on Halloween night. More than 100,000 safety whistle-lights were distributed through Manitoba schools.
