Hazard identified
Health Canada has recently become aware of dangerous electrical products in stores that have not been certified by accredited Certification Organizations such as CSA International (CSA), Underwriters Laboratories of Canada (ULC), and others to meet the appropriate standards of the Canadian Standards Association (CSA), Underwriter's Laboratories of Canada (ULC) or other recognized safety standards agencies which are required by the various Provincial/Territorial Electrical Safety Authorities.
These products are not certified for use in Canada. The lamps, which have not been tested to Canadian electrical safety standards, may overheat and melt the enclosure, posing a fire hazard. There have been reported incidents of failure in Canada.
All electrical products are required to be certified by a recognized certification organization. More information on the recognized certification marks for electrical products are available in the following Health Canada Advisory: Health Canada reminds Canadians of electrical safety this holiday season.
