Health Canada is warning consumers that LifeTime Complexed Potassium 99mg tablets may have been contaminated with salmonella bacteria based on a preliminary analysis conducted by an independent laboratory. Health Canada is conducting further analysis to confirm the presence of salmonella in this product.

Salmonella are bacteria that cause intestinal illness and pose serious health risks. Symptoms of salmonella infection include diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps. The symptoms can appear 12 to 72 hours after exposure and the illness usually lasts four to seven days.

LifeTime Complexed Potassium 99mg tablets are imported by LifeTime Nutrition Canada. The company has stopped sale of the product and a recall has been initiated at the retail level. Sales appear to have been centred in British Columbia, in Chase, near Kamloops, and in North Vancouver.

The lot number of the product that may be contaminated with salmonella is 0510078.

Consumers who have used LifeTime Complexed Potassium 99mg tablets, lot number 0510078, should discontinue use and contact their health care practitioners if they have concerns about their health. Consumers who have purchased the product should contact the Health Products and Food Branch Inspectorate at 1-800-267-9675.
