Product description

This recall involves gas powered two-stage snow blowers sold through The Home Depot.

Hazard identified

If the pulley bolt was not tightened sufficiently during the manufacturing process and did not have threadlocker applied by the manufacturer, the bolt may become loose and could lodge against the drive plate, which will apply pressure to the drive plate and keep the unit in drive.

As of May 10, 2018, the company has received five reports in Canada involving a loose pulley bolt, and no reports of injuries. In the United States, the company has received 15 reports of incidents, and no reports of injuries.

Number sold

Approximately 11,841 units of the affected products were sold in Canada and approximately 35,000 were sold in the United States.

Time period sold

The affected units were sold in Canada from September 2016 to February 2018 at The Home Depot stores and website.  In the United States, the affected units were sold from July 2015 to February 2018.

Place of origin

Manufactured in China.

What you should do

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled snow blowers and contact Amerisun for further instruction and to obtain a free repair kit.

Consumers may visit the firm's website for a "Bolt Inspection Instruction Sheet" to determine if the bolt is loose and needs to be tightened.

Consumers may also contact Amerisun, Inc. at 1-800-791-9458 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or email for further direction on inspecting the product for this hazard and obtaining a free repair kit.

Consumers may view the release by the US CPSC on the Commission's website.

Please note that the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits recalled products from being redistributed, sold or even given away in Canada.
