Product description
This recall involves all Amprobe© digital multimeters with model numbers AM-540 and AM-550 DMMs.
Hazard identified
An error in production has resulted on a potential safety issue where the meter may not withstand the energy of transient overvoltage in a Category III/IV environment. This could cause the meter to explode or generate an arc that could result in harm to the user.
The affected product has been recalled in the United States and is certified to Canadian Standards by Canadian Standards Association (CSA), which means it can potentially be available in Canada as well.
Neither Amprobe© nor Health Canada is aware of any reports of incidents or injuries to Canadians related to the use of the affected products.
Number sold
There were no affected units distributed in Canada by the company. However as units are approved for sale in Canada, there may be some present in the Canadian market through other channels.
Time period sold
The recalled products have been distributed from January 01, 2012 to March 31, 2012 in the United States.
