Product description
This recall involves air compressors sold under the Craftsman, Ex-Cell, Pro-Air II and Porter-Cable brand names. The model number on each unit is located on the unit name plate on the tank.
The Craftsman brand compressors involved in this recall are models 919-724300, 919-724321, 919-724322, 919-724500, 919-724591, and 919-724701. The Sears Craftsman brand compressors have a red vertical or horizontal tank of 20, 30 or 33 gallons (76, 114 or 125 litres), depending on the model.
Ex-Cell, Pro-Air II and Porter-Cable brand compressors involved in this recall are models C3101-2, C3151-2, C6110-1, C6110-2, EXFBC6025-1 and PAFBC6025VP. The Ex-Cell brand compressors have a black 25 gallon (95 litre) horizontal tank, and the Pro-Air II compressors have a 25 gallon (95 litre) vertical tank. Porter-Cable brand compressors have red tanks with a variety of configurations depending on the model. The model number and manufacture date on each unit is located on the unit name plate on the tank.
Hazard identified
The air compressor motor can overheat, posing a fire hazard.
DeVilbiss has received 10 reports of motors overheating. No incidents have been reported in Canada.
Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these air compressors.
Number sold
Approximately 4,900 units of the affected air compressors were sold in Canada.
Specifically, the Craftsman brand compressors were sold at Sears Canada, while the Ex-Cell, Pro-Air II and Porter-Cable brand compressors were sold at industrial and construction distributors.
Time period sold
The affected air compressors were sold from July 2003 to September 2008.
Place of origin
Manufactured in the United States.
