AC Adapter for Sony VAIO® Desktop Computer
Product description
This recall involves black AC adapters used with certain Sony VAIO® desktop computers.
The recalled adapter has model number VGP-AC19V17, which can be found on the top right corner of the battery.
The recalled adapter was sold with VAIO® computers that have the following model numbers:
- VGCJS250DQ
- VGCLT10E
- VGCLT18CE
- VGCLT20E
- VGCLT28CE
- VGCLT33CE
- VGCLT38CE.
Hazard identified
The insulation inside the affected adapters may fail over time. Such a failure could pose a risk of an electrical shock to consumers should they touch the metal portions of the adapter, of the computer connected to the adapter, or of peripheral devices connected to the computer.
Four incidents of short circuiting have been reported to Sony worldwide due to this issue, with no reported injuries or property damage related to these incidents.
Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these AC adapters.
Number sold
Approximately 3,500 of the recalled products were sold at Sony Canada stores across Canada.
Time period sold
The recalled products were sold from September 2007 to June 2009.
